  • 32 bit exr's

When saving out of the frame buffer how do you creat 32 bit files?

  • #2
I don't believe you can, you have to setup the save before the render. Or at least that is the only way I can get a 32bit exr.

do you mean the vray vfb ?
As for the vrayVFB you can set this via maxscrtipt:

      .output_rawExrUseHalf : boolean

defaults to on saving half-float. Setting it to false will write 32bit full float.

Standard vfb only supports 16bit. You can output to 32bit if you uncheck "rendered frame window"
Just make sure that you create an output file. (exr)

This is how i do it. (See Attached)
Don't forget to choose 32bit when it prompts you.

This will still create a HalfFloat image, not full-float. Usually that is enough tho

If the Save File: output is set to save an EXR, and you render, the Max VFB will be 32bit float.

Not to mention that EXR's are incredible efficient with file size when using 16bit. Really really efficient.

Hi I really don´t understand how to do it, if I set in the V-ray Frame Buffer "Render to V-ray raw image file" but I change the format to .exr will that file be in 32bit full float?

By default it will be a 16-bit exr. You must use the MaxScript command earlier in the thread to make V-Ray output a 32-bit one.

                    Best regards,
                    Vlado

But the vray fb is full float right?

Yes, the V-Ray VFB stores everything as floating-point 32-bits per channel.

Instinct could you so kindly explain step by step how to edit the maxscript you mentioned.

Trying to figure it out but dont know what to do exactly.

                              Cheers.
