I wanted to play around with vray and blender--I have read I need the standalone version of V-ray--How can I get that and hwo much does it cost--thanks to anyone who can help me with this.

The Maya Version includes 10 standalone lics if i recall right.

#1 - If you just want to play around with Vray & Blender, then just download the Vray of Maya Demo version for free. The Vray for Maya Demo includes the Vray Standalone Demo. The Vray for Blender script is NOT a full implementation of Vray, so it's really not worth the investment right now until the Blender integration matures. According to the latest announcement from Brecht, the Blender shading pipeline rewrite wont even begin until they finish their movie (Sintel), so it could be a while (later this year) before you see some of the advanced Vray features made available in Blender.
