  • Vray Mtl vs. Vray Map

Hi guys just a simple question from newbie user.

As far as I understand photon mapping only works for vray mtls, so in terms of speed it is advisable to use vray matls to take advantage of photon mapping in the secondary bounces, right?

In terms of set-up and quality which one is better?

Right. But whether you're using a photon map or direct comp on secondary bounces, VRay mats will allways render faster than max's native.

Usually photon maps will render faster than direct computation (for interior rendering at least).

The greatest advantage of photon mapping is that it is scene dependant and saveable, thus you can compute it once and reuse it for a whole fly through animation.

      Nenad,

So are you saying, I render one frame of the scene and then i can let my animation render with that imap saved?

Which would mean you dont have to render incremental every Nth frame....?

WOW, I didnt realize this. GOT TO TRY THIS ONE!
