  • Which antialiasing filter do you use most often?

    Hello,

I'm trying to decide how to implement a certain feature; it would be helpful if you let me know which AA filter you use most often. Thanks for voting!

    Best regards,

    Hi Vlado,
While on the subject of antialiasing filters, it would be nice to have a quick/short explanation of the new Vray filters [such as 'Sinc, & Lanczos'] as there doesn't seem to be any info on this in the help files.

    Kind regards
    Jamie

I consider the option to use no filter quite an advantage of other engines .....say Mental Ray.

You can do that in Vray as well .

Just un-tick the ON option next to 'antialiasing filter'.

I do 99% stills & very rarely use antialiasing filters anymore

          Cheers

I don't use any AA filters... but I do only still images...

but in my honest opinion probably this poll should be weighted with use of filters... for example

            100 users
            75 made only stills
            25 only animations

it's very probably that most of "stills" people don't use AA filters and most of "anims" use some filters like area or video, but at the end you will obtain a majority of no AA filters and the "anims" users don't like too much for this results...

But only you know the goal of this poll...

No AA most of the time for me, mainly due to little/no time to test the pros/cons/settings for each one. If all options could be rendered at the same time (with no increase in rendertime) so that I could compare, that would be nice
              Kind Regards,

no filter either for still images, but I often use quadratic for animations.

No filter for either stills or animations, not used any in a couple of years.

I do a lot of animation and I must say that with small and crisp details I always have to use more computation intensive filter like Mitchel-Netravalli and VrayLancZosFilter. I think people who use other filters are probably just rendering stills cause it seems impossible to get smooth animation with anything else.

ok so i didn't know that when you are doing still image that you could simply turn off the AA , i really never bother with the AA settings as i left it on default most of the time. I guess now that know that i will render just a little bit faster.

Mitchell for stills and animations when I can get away with it, area if things start getting buzzy.

Well, most often, I use no filter.

I don't use any filter, be it for prints or 2k film work.

are most of you not using any filter because the final output is better without, render speed increase, etc. I'd love to know the when's & why's of filter usage.
