  • getting better refraction advice ...

I have have a little dilemma. I'm trying to find a way to reproduce the refraction of the glass who looks quite complex on the photo i took, and there's a Vray example i did, where the glass refraction seems too simple. I'm guessing that it must come from the way the glass is modeled because the refracted surrounding is quite simple and i was wondering if in the real world the inside of the "butt" of the glass doesn't transmit the light as if it was a "perfect" clear glass and does have some artifact inside it that the eye can't see. I dunno if made myself clear ?

Pick up a glass and look at the surface. Its probably not 100% flat on the bottom of the base or the bottom of the inside of the glass. Try to replicate these imperfections in your modeling and you should get the results you are after.

That is a tough one to reproduce easily for sure. You'll need more complex lighting to create the same highlights/reflections, caustics should be on for sure, and you probably need to create some curve in the bottom of the glass. I'd also suggest a subtle bump in the glass to create some warping in there to create more variations as well.
