  • DR Rendering with more than 10 computers on windows XP.

I thought XP had a 10 computer limit that wouldnt allow you to us DR with more than 10 computers? We had 12 dual quad cores and the VRAY messages always would say using 10 render host(even though we have multiple vray licenses). Never the full 12. We got 8 more dual quad cores for a total of 20 so we could split them up and have 2 renderings going with each using 10 computers.

Today, using MAX 2011 I had all 20 cmputers selected and just figured it would pick which 10 It would use. Well, all 20 rendered. Has it always been this way? Or is this somehting will 2011?

As far as I know there was never a limit on the amount of machines used for DR. We have 12 quad cores (with HT on making them octo core?) here and there are sometimes connection errors but 90% of the time they all render.

I have a feeling the 10 connection limit would only really come up if more than 10 machnes physically wanted to access an XP machine at any one time. ie. If 12 renders were completed in the same instant, and all render machines wanted to save them to the same XP machine in that instant, there would be an issue. The chances are, that will never happen (unless you have 200 PCs rendering frames of an animation that is!).

With DR I imagine there is a constant stream of network traffic sending commands and chunks of data this way and that all the time. If a packet of data is delayed, it will probably just keep trying until it gets through. Of course, that could be utter hogwash
