  • Max fur render pareparation time is not understandable to me

    hi,

this is regarding max's hair and fur tool with vray. even with relatively small number of furs, 100~200k for example, the translation time taken before the actual image render is sadly high. i don't get this, but same type of fur in maya & shave spends almost no time for translation compared to what's happening in max. maybe this is max's issue, but i'd like hear vray users experience rendering fur for animated characters. i see message like below on render progress window, which takes very long time:

    Current Task: "Updating object (HairVrObject001)"

with one of my example, this and other preparation stage took 20 minutes, then the actual image render took 90 seconds on 8gig 8core PC with vray1.5sp5. i tried to bake animation and use geom cache to get get rid of "live stacks" to no avail. obviously when it comes to simple static geometry with low subdivision value or low poly count, the problem is not really there. could someone possibly enlighten me about things goings on under the hood? also, is there any more information regarding "HairVrObject" or "HairVrShadeable"? thanks in advance.

Internally the hair engine writes a file to disk that contains all the hairs. This file is later used during the rendering.
