  • Vray SSS2 UVW Seam Problem

Can anyone please help with the problem I am running into. I have a female model using the SSS2 shader for the skin. As you can see in the images, there are significant seams where the UVW maps butt up against one another. I have tried welding verts, just in case they weren't, I have tried using the torso/head map/material on the face, so they are identical materials in every way and the seams still show up. I am really happy with the skin minus this fact and really need to get this figured out.

    Thanks in advance.

First, you need to use the same material on both parts of the mesh (or use the "prepass id" parameter that is added in SP5, so that all the materials use the same illumination map). Second, if filtering is enabled for your bitmaps, make sure that there is a sufficient border around your UVW seams in the texture.

Vlado, where can I find the "prepass id" parameter in SP5. And thanks for the quick response. I am using the same material on both parts, so I will try your suggestion.

Found setting for "prepass id" and set them all to 1. Still had the same seams.

          What about the filtering?

I turned off map filtering under global settings and still no luck. How can two identical materials show distinct seams right on the UVW lines?

Hm, ok, do the textures look fine on a simple diffuse material?

              Best regards,

Vlado, I am a dummy. The material editor slot showed the material I was making changes to as active, it wasn't. Once I used the eyedropper to get the material directly off the model again, this became painfully aware to me. The prepass id worked just fine and I really appreciate your help. I did not even know sp5 was released.

                Much thanks again.
