  • creating VRScene

sorry for the newb question. does anyone know how to export a vrscene from max? im trying to import the vrscene into maya and I want to see how much crossover can be done with the vrscene and what differences we will experience.

i see that there is a function to export vrscene from max but it pops up a window with 3 field boxes and I cant seem to get it to export? im looking through the help docs and i dont see any mention of how to export a vrscene from max?

There are two ways to do the export; one is through the script, as you found out; the other is through V-Ray RT. When using the MaxScript, do you get any errors? Ideally you just have to type in a path and a file name and click on "Export".

    Best regards,

opp ok yea my mistake we didnt specify the file path and name correctly . it is working as expected now. Maybe this was another misunderstanding I thought we could import the vrscene into maya? It looks like I only have the option to import the materials from the vrscene but not the geometry or the lights and camera? is this correct? It would be great if we could cross over the vrscene back and forth into maya or max.

Have you tried using the FBX format? It should allow you to take scenes from Max to Maya with no problem.

You can only import the materials; the .vrscene format is only for rendering - it is not designed to be a general geometry exchange format.

do you think it "could" be. we would find that usefull. The vrscene seems to have all the necessary parts to do so? I wonder has anyone attempted to do this? it seems like it could be done by an outside programmer as the vrscene file is just basic text file so seems like we could read that and create a geo/scene exporter.
