I'm trying to reduce the flickering in a huge forest, while also reducing my precalc/rendering times.
I can't find any documentation on the VrayAmbientLight and I was wondering if the following approach would negate the flicker issue and allow me to lower my rendering settings?
-Add a VrayAmbientLight to the scene with a VraySun as the light map
-Completely excluding the forest object from the GI calculations
-Exclude all objects from the VrayAmbientLight except the forest
-Add VrayDirt to the forest texture to add some detail
Would this also shrink the size of my IRR and LC files?
Hi,
I just have an animation in the same way to do with a tight deadline !
I just try this method and it seems to be ok but but the rendering time is beyond what I can... How can I do to optimize it ?
Thx in advance
Another question ? It's a good trick to reduce GI flicker but at the expense of rendering time ?
I mean use a VrayAmbientLight will inevitably be more expensive in time ?

Yes good question.
@rikou: It's been a week and a half, have you had same results as sandykoufax in that your rendertimes are less? Or in your case using the VRayAmbientLight took longer to render?

in the VRayAmbientLight mode, do we use "Direct + GI" or only "Direct"? Does that mean it will calculate GI or fake it?
