  • SP5 memory?

    Hi,

We have just upgraded to SP5 and are having some memory issues, which I'm sure used to fine (same max files). on 8GB machines it is taking about an hour per frame, and with 12GB about 20 mins

Is there any chance SP5 can have effected this?

Any other suggestions, that may be cheaper than upgrading everything to 12GB?

    Thanks
    Nick

I don't think anything has changed in that regard. However if you also use a different 3ds Max version, there may be differences in memory usage.

I installed SP5 in MAxx 2011 and now it's using quite a bit more memory and cloging down my 8 quads on the network. Before on MAX 2009 and SP4 I could do other things while rendering. Now it freezes and resumes but I can't do anything else. Also, the additional machines do not kick in until the actual render. The DR buckets will not engage during the irrmap calculations on larger scenes.

Does MAX need a sevice pack for memory leaks or is Vray causing this? If I render the same scene in MAX 2009, no problems.

Well, this is easy to verify: install SP5 on max 2009 and see what is the memory usage. If it goes up, then there is something in V-Ray that causes it and we'll have to get some more details from you.

          Best regards,
