  • Max Design 2011 - Vray 1.5 sp5 - Spawners don't launch

    Hi
Even though all are registered - they do not launch automatically when slaves are restarted.

If you go to the Control Panel > Administrative tools > Services, do you see the V-Ray spawner services there?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Ok then, if you right-click on one of the services and select "Start", what happens?

Also, did you run a regular backburner job with that machine as a server?

        Best regards,
        Vlado

          They are started already.
The backburner was done when I Installed max 2009 but not when installed 2011

Then maybe I did not understand what is the problem (you said they don't start in the first post)?

            Best regards,

They show as "started" in the services panel but they don't show on the taskbar and the taskbar icon of the VrayDummy is not showing either.

From my experience ... when the VRaySpawner is started as a service ... the 3DS Max VRayDummy taskbar and VRay DR system icon does not appear.

The appropriate processes should be running though in the task manager.

These are the ways I have setup DR in the past ...

                1) Situate the machine as a Backburner server and run a backburner job to it. Exit out of the Backburner setup after successfully processing the job.

                3) Register the VRaySpawner service and make sure it has started.

                4) Right-click on Taskbar > Task Manager to verify if an instance of "3dsmax.exe" and "vrayspawner##.exe" is running.

                5) If it is, then the next test is run a test DR render and see of the computer is found and jumps in to assist with the render.

I've been doing this for more than 2 years like this in max 2009 (A VrayDummy on the taskbar+ an icon of the spawner on the right side of the TB)
I just moved to 2011 so the problems are either me not configuring it as it should or that may be a problem with Vray.

                  Even after running Backburner
the spawners do not launch - i mean they do appear in the services program but the logo and the VrayDummy are not shopwing.

Also - When I launch the spawner forcefully they appear but do not seem to connect with the Client PC.

This is perfectly normal and has always worked like that - services are not allowed to display any user interface by default. However, you should still see the respective processes in the Task Manager (vrayspawner.exe and 3dsmax.exe) if you make sure that the "Show processes from all users" option is enabled.

                    Best regards,

Anyway - I cant get the slaves to participate in the DR.
Thyey connect with the client but do not render
I attach a screenshot of the log

Here is a screenshot of the Slave screen (one of them) as I have always had.

EDIT: I have performed this process:
I made sure the spawners are started.
I ran BB - the BB process was working OK (I had vray on the slave render OK)
I then turned the Net render OFF and used DR but the server did not render.

What am I to do ?

Sorry Nirsul if this is an odd question ...

Can't help to notice you mentioning that you have registered the VRspawner as a service (automatically runs in the background when you boot up your machine).

Then in the desktop screen cap above ... you have a desktop shortcut to the manual VRay DR spawner launcher which you seem to have ran ... hence the vraydummy2011 on the taskbar.

Can you verify in the Task manager if you have duplicate instances of 3dsmax.exe and vrayspawner2011.exe on those host slave machines?

If so, you have vrayspawner running on top of each other (as a startup service + manual method via the launcher) ... and this might be the kink in the DR setup.

I checked No double instances of either of the programs.
When I used MAX 2009 - This was what I saw onscreen a VrayDummy and a spawner Icon .
I am quite surprised to hear that I shouldn't see either of them.

Is this for any scene, even a simple one (e.g. just a teapot on a plane with some brute force GI), or just for some specific one?
