  • Vray scatter question

    Hello,

I have a question for those who have experience with Vray Scatter. I’m working on the scene with lots of trees and plants….etc. The problem I’m having is with the light calculations. It is taking way to long, however, once the calcs are completed, the rendering is pretty quick.

Any work around suggestions that do not involve compositing?

    Thanks,

    Scott

Maybe try raising the dynamic memory limit?

You can remove the vrayscatter objects from the GI calculations and add in a VRayambientlight and use that to fake the GI.
It works really well and renders nice and fast

If I understand you correctly…….are you saying remove the VRS items in the vray properties, uncheck generate and receive GI and then add the Vray ambient-light? How will the ambient-light effect the other objects in the scene? I have never used the Vray ambient light.

        Thanks,

        Scott

thats correct, then you just "include" the VRS objects in the VRayambientlight

Yea I figured that out, however, gave that a try and it does work, just ok and that is if the sun is coming from your back, over your shoulder. If the sun is coming from the opposite direction, then this falls apart a bit, unless I’m doing something wrong. Then the trees look like undefined blotches, even with some transparency in the leaves.

            Did I do something incorrect?

            Thanks,

            Scott

if you using vraysun/sky you can add the vraysky map to the ambientlight

I placed the Vray sky map in the slot but it gave me the same results. When you get a chance, could you please post a small sample image using this method? I would like to see if the results are the same. I figured the only solution was to optimize the geometry and that seemed to help quit a bit. I’m hoping that one of the not so distant future releases will have the same camera option like Forest Pro. It will only take into account the landscape geometry within the cameras cone of vision.

                Thanks,

                Scott

cut my lightcalc in 1/10. I raised to 2000. (Not with vrayscatter though, just vrayproxies manually.)

Using a VrayDirt (ambient occlusion) map with the Ambient Light might do a nice job of simulating GI on the proxies...
