      It's really very basic:

torus is max material (just default assigned stuff)

cloth is vray mat with only change, a fallof map in the diffuse slot (with dark and light blue in its color boxes)

cloth left is max mat with same falloff map in diffuse

GI is skylight only (no other lights in scene). Settings defaults except min max is -4,-1

      everything is just default stuff

      cloth is animated with simcloth

anyone else has this problem? Its pretty annoying not to be able to use vray mats if you're not sure they will work correctly...

Could you post the scene, and I can take a quick look if the same thing happens here.

I've had this error before as well, numerous times. Its really aggravating. I think it has something to do with how the faces are aligned, my problems came from a nurbs surface that i converted into an e-mesh.

You use nurbs for that cloth flipside?

nurbs? wouldnt you want to use a cloth mesh for that?

Yes, i use nurbs surface with advanced surface approximation parameters set to 'delaunay', so the mesh is more randomly positioned instead of the normal square style. I did this because all the examples that came with simcloth 3 use this kind of planes. I don't have clothplanes, they're not used anymore with simcloth 3 I think.

Here's a screenshot of the delaunay style:

(max5 file zipped, 2.2Mb --- simcloth anim is saved with it)
