  • Viz vs. Max

    Hi all,

I'm currently a Rhino user but have tried 3DMax in the past (mainly because Rhino render engines suck)

I'd love to try out VRay as well and noticed that it runs both on Max and Viz.

    Okay here comes the question:
I'm only familiar with Max. I don't like it. Not one bit. If Viz is lighter, faster, easier to use I'll definitely switch to Viz. BUT I also use this software primarily to run plugins. So I cannot use VIZ if plugins do not work all the time.

    Any advice?

    Thanks, David

think of Viz as Max Light same thing but half the calories (near enough)

I'd go with max though as I believe autodesk will discontinue viz

I thought AutoDesk was continuing Viz?

But I'll go for VIZ anyway for the time being. "Light-weight" Max is all I needed to hear... thanks

I wonder how long plug-in developers will continue to develop for MAX/VIZ 4. MAX 5 has been out for quite a while now and VIZ 4 is falling behind in features. Before long I bet plug-in compatibility will be a problem. There is no word on future development of VIZ and the rumors are it will be discontinued. I understand that there is an upgrade path to MAX for VIZ users, so for now you will probably be fine with VIZ.
