opacity problem

  • opacity problem

    i have a material (applied to the ground plane) that uses a gradient ramp (radial) in the refraction channel. the idea is that the ground plane will fade away in the distance.



    you can see that this is not working like i was imagining.

    any ideas?

    do you have IOR set to 0?

        neither 0 nor 1.0 for the IOR was working. i only got it to work by using a MAX standard material (with vray mat wrapper) with the gradient ramp in the opacity channel. now i am not even sure if i like the effect anyways.

        the other thing i had to do was make sure that the 'affect background' was turned ON. this is a bit problematic, though. i have the dark multiplier set to 1.5 for the scene, so when that "affects" the background, it makes it quite dreary looking. any other way to get around this?

          You could try to use a cylinder and some DOF for fade
