VRay Framebuffer vs Max Standard Framebuffer

    Was searching for info on something and stumbled upon this thread which relates to the issue you are having:

    Once you set Max gamma it will automatically save most file types, like jpg, with those changed settings. If you want to save it without any gamma correction, on the file save settings, below the Save as type, there are the Gamma settings. Choose Override and use 1.0 for value.

    The thing with your scene is how did you create it. Did you work without gamma using the darker version till you arrived at settings you like, and then hit the sRGB button? Working with LWF one always is working with gamma correction, so the image above would be the one you start out and then edit the materials and lighting with. Forgetting about the second image, and working on the first one, to get more contrast I would darken the scene lowering the lighting and darkening the materials. The shadows will never get as dark as with Gamma 1.0; for more contrast you could also use Ambient occlusion (under the Indirect Illumination (GI) settings) to darken the edges.
