  • Pool table ball

A while ago, someone posted a rendering of a pool ball, made for a competition. It won the competition and there was a lot of info about the making of the material with maps etc for the ball.

Now I can't find it anymore...

Anybody remembers this and can provide me a link to it?

    Thanks,

Sorry to bump an old thread, anyone know if there is a webpage translator (I've had a quick look and couldn't find one) for Norwegian to English, I would really like to read the details about this one on the behind the scenes page?

      Thanks

          You can try this site
          http://www.tranexp.com:2000/InterTran

at the very bottom there is a translater their, just paste the page url, and choose norwegian and english.

The translation is pretty bad, and only half of it is translated properly, so it takes abit to understand but its better then 100% norwegian.

          Awesome render too

In what slot do you put the scratch/specular map?

                    winberg:
How did you make the scratch map so that it would wrap perfectly around the sphere? I sse there is the appropriate stretching across the top and bottom of the map but how is this done in photoshop? I tried as best as i could and it was just not working for me.

                    Thanks

DaForce: You can use the polar coordinates filter in photoshop to convert a planar map to something that will work in spherical mapping. After you use the filter you need to do some layer work to put together the top, bottom and middle.

You can do the polar stretching compensation with my Photoshop plugin "Spherical Mapping Corrector":

well the scratch map, would go in the bump map slot...
I made a blend material between the ball material and a whitish material with a modified verjson of the same map as a mask between these two materials to make some irregularities in the map too..
