  • Render to Texture with non-square output???

    Hi,

Is it possible to use the Render to Texture function in 3ds max to create non-square textures?

For example, I have a long, narrow object. To optimize the baked texture (VRayCompleteMap), I would like to have a 1024 x 256 baked texture. When I type those numbers into the RTT dialog, max completely ignores them and creates a 1024 x 1024 texture. I am not using automatic texture size.

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Tim

I had exactly the same problem last week when i tried to Bake a very long tyre Map. I could not do it with vray so i had to use mental Ray and convert the Materials. Looks like a Bug.
    Reflect, repent and reboot.
    Order shall return.

I haven't tested it, but I wonder if it would work (create non-square textures) with the default scanline renderer? That would probably determine whether it is an inherent 3ds max issue...or a VRay-specific issue.

I guess what you are saying is that when you used MR, it worked. Based on your results, it's a VRay bug.

Why would it be a V-Ray bug? The output texture is created by 3ds Max, not by V-Ray. You get the same result with the scanline renderer too (I get the same result with mental ray for that matter).

          Yes, you can.
When you render in frame buffer, it appears as a squre image, but the actually output image should have the resolution you set.
I have always baked as use non-square image, never have had problems.
