How do i use this ? I cannot find any way to link it to a vray camera and control distance etc...

you don't link, you just place it in your scene. Any camera you have active will use the helper; you turn it off/on.

One more question. How do I go about saving the still image or avi in the 3d format ??...when I try and save the still image as a jpg it just saves the left and right eye image without merging..

That is the way it was developed to work; I am still not sure why. For my needs I just copy the VFB using JING.
