  • New Script: Tile Roofs with displacement in seconds

    Hi everyone,
Been working on this script for quite awhile and am happy to finally release it. For the moment the script focuses on barrel tile roofs only, however future updates will include other types of tile, metal roofs, and shingles. It works by creating the materials and displacement maps and then applies proper UV coords to your existing roof geometry. After the script has run you can interactively change the tile color, contrast, and tile size as well. There are a couple video demos on Youtube.

The script can be accessed here (you will need to register to download it):

    http://www.digitalxmodels.com/produc...aces_maxscript

And the videos are here (you may need to turn up the volume):

    Enjoy!!

Potentially a useful plugin. Well done.
However, for us in the UK, a more basic flat tile/slate roof would be much more useful: we rarely have these kind of barrel tiles over here. Together with support for vray textures in the tiles slots, this could be very powerful.

Thank you! Looks great and looking forward to use it as well as seeing the updates for other roof types in the future.

Do you need to have this installed on nodes to have it render?

Also, an option to pick either displacement or a normal map & darkened diffuse would be nice for distant aerials
I'm not sure if this is already possible with your material setup, it may well be - I wont have chance to have a look until later.

It looks like a really well developed script, good work.

Thanks for the comments guys, I've really been looking forward to everyone's thoughts and ideas.

Tricky, do you think you could send me a photo of the kind of typical roof tile you're referring to? I've already got a flat concrete tile in the works, and it might not be too difficult to make some different variations.

I hope you don't mind me sending some images of roof tiles we use here (Netherlands) don't know if the UK has similar ones.

Hi John - does this work in 2011 x64? I can't seem to get it to install.

EDIT-Nevermind, it was a permission problem in Win7.

                      www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... At least I have one fan.

Ya, because the installer creates a "xScripts" folder in your main scripts directory, and then another "DRS" folder inside that, windows requires admin privileges to successfully install. Glad you figured it out!

Any chance of getting a version of the most recent script for Max 2009 x64?

Looks like someone needs barrel tiles a year later.
