  • Some miscellaneous questions

    Hi!

I have a few questions #2 is not related to Vray.

    1) If I am setting up a Reflect map in a vray mtl does this override
the value in the reflect color slot? or is the color slot a base value
    with the map affecting additively?

    2) After exporting 3ds from rhino, (all polysurfaces are
joined) I'm still noticing very minute gaps in the mesh. This is
even evident if I jack the density up quite high (700k
polys.) I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to fill gaps say
under a certain tolerance in 3ds (any interrnal/external tools for this?)
Vray's great reflections make these tiny imperfections all the more
    visible!

    Thanks

    1. it overrides.

    2. Try use the "shownakededges" command in rhino on you polysurface. if you have naked edges you can use the "joinedge" command.

        Thanks guys!

        the reflection info helped =)

joinedge on naked edges doesn't seem to be working as advertised. Perhaps
my edge curves are too buggy. Also discovered the seams are possibly
because rhino has split the model into parts (because of >65k polys) right at
        the interface in question

If you get seams because of the 65K limit just get the .3dm importer for max (only works with meshes) on rhino's site.. or join all the pieces in max.

You could also try exporting your model using OBJ format which hasn't got any limits. To import it into MAX you need a free plugin called OBJ2MAX:
