its not a vray flaw, its a design flaw in the way max was made.

Vray seems to pause only after it's completely the irradiance pass.

because they hijack max's native code, which can cause instability problems.

i've heard this, so its not out of the horses mouth, so BB.

That's strange. I've never really given it much thought. I just thought that's what VRay does. So you VRay will just continue to calc the irr. map and then move straight onto the rendering?

One of the reasons's I have heard of is that the constant checks required to see if the user has pressed the pause button reduce speed and VRAY is very focused on speed and as a result this feature was ignored to keep VRAY fast. No sure if this is true at all, but it sounds reasonable.

Why would you want to pause a render anyways? The only time I ever seen it done is when some one from a different department pauses a farm machine and leaves it off forever :P

Sorry but pusing a rendering happens a lot here! When I suddenly wan tto open PS or anything else, I want to press pause so the processor can focus on opening the other app or document first. If pause doesn't work, everything else outside max works very slow.

and that's why you don't render and work on the same box....

                              Flipside :

just open task manager and put 3dsmax.exe to lowest priority.

i do it all the time and work on photoshop etc while rendering.
Of course the render takes a little more time, but it still works very well!
