  • Clean Alpha Channel Please

    Hello All,

When rendering out to a TGA file with an alpha channel, how do you prevent that fine outline around the objects? I can not get a clean alpha without the ghost line at the edges.

    Thanks,

    Scott

Make sure your background is black in max, any enviroment lighting in the Vray overrides.
Make sure pre-multiplied alpha is not checked when saving the tga.

If all else fails in photoshop after you have masked the layer with the mask, select:

Layers-> Matting-> Remove Black Matte or (if you have a black fringe)
Layers-> Matting-> Remove White Matte or (if you have a white fringe)
Layers-> Matting-> Defringe (1-2 pixels is all you need )

the alpha channels are right. the fine outline comes from transparent pixels, because of the AA. this can't be avoided. it's a known problem.
like bob-cat said make sure your environment color is white or black. or take the photo from the environment as background to pre-multiply the pixels from it to the rendering.

I thought the tga format has this option to pre-multiply the alpha so it generates a thicker outline around the RGB channel of the image to avoid the outline. the alpha isn't affected by that.
