  • I need help with a Pool render

    Hi all

I am currently working on a swimming pool render and keep coming across the same problem. I am using a simple Vraymtl, fully transparent, and a displacement modifier for the rippled effect. The problem I have is that the water is making the pool look really shallow, I know in real life water has this effect but is there anyway round making the pool look deeper at all?

    Hope that makes sense

    Thanks

    Gio

Why use displacement it's going to take a long time and might be causing your perception problems. Try using a mesh with a noise modifier attached, that has worked well for me in the past.

If I understand your question correctly. Play around with the IOR setting under the refraction section of the material editor. The default is setting to 1.6. Try setting it to 1.0 and go from there. The greater the number will increase the illusion of the light bending as we see through the transparent surface.

      Hope this helps.

      Scott.

assuming your using a simple plan, you can try a material with reflection ior of about 1,33 (water's ior), and refraction ior of 1. that should get rid of the unwanted effect, though it will look completely unrealistic.

        edit:
        as already suggested above.

Thanks for all you very fast replies.

devin, I dont seem to get any problems using displacement, but will try your method anyway, thankyou!

smalerbi & rivoli, I have tried what you said and it seems to be working, thanks. I realise it will look unrealistic but I can feel the comments coming from my client already about it lookin too shallow, so why not not beat them too it!!!
