Linear Workflow tickbox in Color Mapping

Just wondering how this works - I have had a good look but can't see any threads on it.

If the linear setting is at 2.2 and the box is ticked is it essential that the settings are changed in the Preferences Settings ?

I was informed that the "Linear Workflow" checkbox was to retrofit old scenes to a linear workflow if they weren't properly setup that way. We set the colro mapping to 2.2, check "Don't Affect color(adaptation only) and then turn on you gamma in the preferences of 3dsmax with 2.2 in the viewer and the input, but make sure you are saving out images with 1.1 in the output. (Again in the preferences of max)

1.1 for output? A typo or really? I have it set to default 1.0.

Linear workflow - when this option is checked V-Ray will automatically apply the inverse of the Gamma correction that you have set in the Gamma field to all VRayMtl materials in your scene. Note that this option is intended to be used only for quickly converting old scenes which are not set up with proper linear workflow in mind. This option is not a replacement for proper linear workflow.

So yes if you follow the good linear workflow procedure, you must NOT check the linear workflow tick box on. I agree though that's it's very tempting to check it since it's called linear workflow and that's exactly the key word you're after!!! Maybe it should be called "bad scene convert" or something like that.
