  • Why does it take DR nodes to kick in so long?

    Hi,

the topic says it all. it usually takes 2 minutes before the DR nodes kick in.....what should i do to make them start faster?
    any hints?

The 3ds Max scene must first be transferred to the node, and then it must be loaded by 3ds Max, as well as any external files like textures, GI caches etc. Depending on the data that must be processed, all of this takes time.

Things that you can do, is enable the "Compress on save" option, and copy any network assets locally to the render slave.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

What is the file name needed to access the maps that are stored on the dr machines so max will look there instead of the network?

I create a C:\assets directory on my local machine and render nodes. I do a Resource Collector and copy all assets to the render nodes. Really speeds things up and makes sure there aren't any IES lights or other asset that the nodes can't see.

great will give it a try.....how is it working if you change something in your scene? do you always have to resave on all the nodes?

Of course. If you make a change to a bitmap in the local machine C:\assests dir, you have to copy it to the nodes. But it's pretty easy. I have one machine that has all my nodes opened up in Remote Desktop windows. It's a fairly simple and quick process to drag and drop the new bitmap into each of the nodes.

Wouldnt it be good if you could create a folder on your local machine that is automatically synced up on all other machines...that would be a nice timesaver too.

A dream come true, it would be.

Does anyone know if such a thing is possible?
