Can someone tell me if there is a time limit/deadline to upgrade to Vray 2.0. Can I decide to upgrade at the end of February without defaulting to full price?
i thought the deadline is for full vray not for the upgrade?!
if yes, i would say that SUCKS....how much woudl the upgrade cost if i missed the deadline?
whats more...how can we decide? apart from few videos, there is still NO proper info on the new vray features
I am not sure I understand what your problem is -If you already own Vray 1.5 You will be able to upgrade to version 2.0 paying 500 Euros.(or was it 500 US$?)
You may do it the same day it ships (Dec. 6 2010) or you may do it 6 months later - The price should be the same.
I know some dealers (Surely not in MY country ) offer a pre-release purchase discount.
yep thats what i thought....400 EU / 500 dollars per upgraded licence no matter if you buy now or in 6 months time.......as i understand...there is no deadline for the upgrade....it would not make sense
Dear Daniel and the rest of the people who raised this discussion,
Actually the upgrading to version 2.0 starts on Nov 1st, slightly earlier than the release date Dec 6th 2010.
All people who are eligible to the cheap upgrade (150 EUR/190 USD/125 GBP) can purchase it by Jan 31st; afterwards their upgrade will be at its full price.
All the rest of the V-Ray for 3ds Max 1.5(or earlier) users can purchase the upgrade at its full price (400 EUR/510 USD/ 330 GBP) until V-Ray for 3ds Max Version 3.0 is available(no specific date available; pricing is a subject to change depending on big drops and ups in currency exchange rates and does not include dongle, any local taxes or shipment)
On Nov 1st preordering of new licenses of V-Ray Version 2.0 starts at a discounted price until Dec 6th 2010 - the release date of version 2.0. (Pricing by then would be as follows: 845 EUR/1070 USD/ 700 GBP)
Pricing after Dec 6th will be raised.

So it doesn't matter if I bought my Vray in July with or without RT - the price for my upgrade is the same??
Why do I have to pay as much as those who do not already own RT?
Others have asked the same question. There is no reason other than that you got to use it for a couple of months. The same answer regarding RT. See this thread:
Henning, many in the same position as you have expressed their unhappiness with this decision, but no good came from it. Anybody who has been using VRay for some time will all agree that we have received great service from them until now. Many would argue that because of that, they don't mind supporting the new direction Chaos seems to be heading in with regards to their bussiness model. Personally, I bought into VRay for two reason, because I think its a good renderer and because I liked the way the company was operating. I do think the end of that aproach is about to start at least in some part....would love to be proven wrong.
To reason that those who bought early into RT does not deserve a discount because we got to use the program for some time, would mean that all long standing users of VRay should be getting no discount at all when upgrading. If one wants to follow that logic, then longstanding users should actually be paying in...I know that is a bit scarcastic, but stupid statements brings that out in me.
I for one (and don't think I am the only early adopter of RT which feels this way) will be much more causious as to join any upgrades early on again with Chaos. Lesson learned.
