  • VRayLightSelect and MultiLight (TM)

    Just out of curiosity...

    Will VRayLightSelect somehow make Maxwell's MultiLight feature possible after one renderpass ? I know you can do this with the MultiLight script from Guilermo Leall but that requires too much time!
    In other words will the lightcontributions and the original image without these lights contributions all be available as seperate layers ?

    I dont think it will exactly work like Multilight (tm) as its only extracting individual lights into the render element.
    From the features list *VRayLightSelect render element to extract the contribution of individual lights;

    But you never know what magic Vlado and the team are working on

      I'm sure it does not work like MultiLight. I just would like to know if with this new element you can script or program something like MultiLight without the need for multiple renderpasses.

        I tried to confirm this in another thread. In my understanding, the point is whether or not the RE_Light_Select includes the reflection and indirect contribution of the selected light(s). In Maya's implementation, it is not at the moment because it is more complicated to implement and can't be done without extra render hit.

        I am craving for having an option for users to choose to take the render hit and being able to extract the full contribution of selected lights, not just the direct lighting contribution. With that, MultiLight can be done in post. In Maxwell, there is render hit and more RAM consumption when Multilight is activated too. In my opinion, as long as the render time hit is not linear to the number of lights, it is an acceptable trade off as at the moment, to achieve this level of control, the only way seems to render one light at a time for all the lights in the scene.
