  • Ambient Occlusion Pass

    Hi-

When I create an AO pass I am not getting white and black. My method for creating the AO pass is with a material override with vray light material and a vray dirt in the slot. I am using white and black for my colors and I have my gi and vray camera exposure turned off. The pass comes out gray. Am I missing a step. I have also used the AO pass script from the web and it comes out equally gray.

Color Mapping maybe (i.e., reinhard, etc.)? What are you rendering - interior or exterior? What's your AO radius?

color mapping is linear 1,1,1. It's an exterior scene with an AO radius of 8"

I usually have vignetting off so that isn't the case. Lehm. I too fix in post, but I don't hear anybody else fixing it in post so I thought it was just me.

I use AO a lot for my images, maybe too much. They're never gray unless my settings dictate it so I'm not sure what could be causing it. If you want to post a scene I can take a look, I'm on Max 2009 though.

Increase ISO in vray camera to something around 1000.

hmmm.... it seems that the gray isn't consistent. I broke down my scene and ran it again, this time it looks great. Sometimes, it seems, that when I use saved materials and and scene settings things don't work as expected. Anyway... all is good and thanks for the help.

Didn't know you could do that! Is there a way to make the background white? I can only get it to be black using this method.
