  • Another DR question...regarding speed..plz help

Guys...I just completed setting my old DUAL piii 866 for rendering...

currently my workstation is a DUAL Atlhon 1.5 GHZ...

DR wizard worked like a charm i can see the buckets of each PC in one image..but..i dont just 4, i c alot of them..is this normal? still if it is, its cool....but when i go to compare the render times...I get 9 seconds when using ONLY the dual athlon and 10 seconds when using BOTH DUALs...

the scene is just a test scene with a plane as floor and a cube/box on top of it...

I was under the impression that DR was suppose to make rendering alot faster!! PLZ HELP!!!!!!

    Nil

edit: ok i just rendered again...and i think its not using the otyher dual after all...because when i c the buckets in the rendering window...they r all written 3dworx-01 (the dual athlon)..and none is written 3dworx-03 (dual piii 866)...can anybody tell me why?

in the Vray networking settings i have both pcs in the vray servers...is this right?

edit2: ok sorry again...i c both duals working the image (sorry) BUT there's still the speed issue!!!

    This is getting wierd...

Now Ive tried rendering a previous scene that Im currently working on....and in the Vray networking settings...the dual PIII 866 says that the scene has failed to load...why is that?

Other than Vray and Dreamscape there r no other plugins used. Do i have to install Dscape in the other machine as well? and what about the textures used? do i have to copy them over also?

    Gettin Worried

This is exactly why it is slower. Your scene is too simple. DR uses some setup time to get started, transmit the scene, sending buckets etc. When rendering a simple scene like that this extra time will make the rendering take longer. Try it with something that needs heavy calculations, and you will see better time differences.

egz is right. DR is pretty good when you´re rendering takes several hours.

          Guys...
i tried with a more complex scne...and still doesnt work!!

i mean i can c both PCS there working on the image..but in the end it gives me the SAME render time!!!
          PLZ HELP!!!

Guys, Vlado...plz come on...I need Help here...

my whole system is as follows:

            1st PC - DUAL ATHLON 1800 MP, 1GB DDR RAM, 40GB HDD
            2nd PC - Single P4 2.2GHZ, 256 DDR RAM, 40GB HDD
            3rd PC - DUAL PIII866, 1GB DDR RAM, 20 HDD

            thats about it for now...

Its strange, because on vray networking settings dialog, all of them are working on one pice of the image...i noticed also that when each one is calculating the Imap passes, it even to more than 100% of progress...at about 110% or so it starts showing its buckets! I c all of them in the image rendering BUT no speed improvement whatsoever...

            PLZ, PLZ, PLZ..Help me

try it with a saved irradiance map, or use bucket mode.

nil, you shouldnt use Imap when rendering distributed. Ive found the best bet (well the most time efficient anyway) is to use a global photon map for GI.

But i agree with what was said earlier. You need a complex scene to really benefit from DR.

                  Hey guys...

                  Amer...
Its like i told u on msn, whenever i activate photon map vray reacts as if there was no gi turned on...i.e, only the directly lit parts of the scene receive light...the rest of the scene goes black...
can u (or anyone else) tell me how to light a scene with Photon mapping method? a tiny small tutorial (Step by step) would be great.

                  thx.
