  • Massive improvement with GeForce cards -please read

I just found a magic button for Massive improvement with GeForce cards if you use lots vray proxys...by the way it's always been there....I just never tried it

Go to the Vray Proxy Display Tab & change the default setting to FACES .
    It's that simple

I checked my Scene statistics and the Frames per sec went from 23 to 337 !!!!!!!!!!!!
Now that's how a bloddy GTX 480 SHOULD perform.

I should have known this all along as I knew game cards shaded faces much much quicker than edges.

Anyway I hope this helps all of you guys strugling out there with game style cards.
[I don't see why it wouldn't be the same for ATI cards as well.
    All the Best

    Jamie

I had always used the display setting but only used EDGES or BOX mode.
But it's funny how we never try things that are right in front of us.....only problem is with vray & max there are thousands of things right in front of you that you don't get time to try.

      Cheers

          Thanks for the tip.

Another thing for speeding up gaming cards is to select all objects,
          rightclick,
select properties and disable backface culling.
          Reflect, repent and reboot.
          Order shall return.

I was under the impression that this is general knowledge

It also works with ATI cards.
                  Gaming cards don't like edges/lines/wireframes.
Displaying faces only is much, much faster.

My GTX580 drop framerate to half when I am using "preview from file (faces)" instead of edges. And switching backface culling has no influence.

                        Regards

Edit: Now I see. The effect reverses when in wireframe mode.

Is there a way to make back face culling the default?

This works with the new fermi Quadro cards (Quadro 4000). Tripled viewport FPS in wireframe on 365k poly (350k vert) scene
