  • 2.0 Demo - Problems

I´m just testing the 2.0 demo and having big problems.
I am loosing my rendersettings randomly, VRay resets all parameters and turns GI off.
    This happens very often.

Maybe I´m wrong but bloom post effect looks like a bad joke to me, a very basic overall effect like gaussian blur not considering any physical correctness. Much better in Photoshop.

VFB history is a very nice idea, I would like to suggest that all Rendersettings are also saved when saving a VFB so that it´s easier to jump between different setups.

Turn off the "Autosave" feature of 3ds Max and the settings will stop resetting.

Saving the render settings with the VFB history is planned and will be implemented.

As for the bloom; it is indeed very similar to a gaussian blur. Photoshop is certainly a good application for handling similar effects, although I'm not sure how it handles HDR images and color mapping.

      Thanks Vlado.
So the need to turn off Autosave is kind of a bug?
The bloom in the Youtube promo video looks very ok to me, but I can´t reproduce the effect since my whole rendering gets bloomed and not only the bright parts as in the video.

Maybe you could change the bloom-algorithm that way it will only consider bright parts...

      By the way:
Bloom Weight is similar to strength
Bloom Size is amount of Pixels
      and Shape is what?

A physically accurate bloom affects the entire image. There is nothing in photographic cameras that says "oh, here's a bright part, let's add some bloom". In that sense, the photoshop effect is incorrect.

Anyways, to reduce the blurring of less bright parts of the image, increase the "Shape" parameter for the bloom. It is the sharpness of the curve that is applied (think of the specular hilights curve in the Standard material).

The settings resetting on autosave is not exactly a bug; the demo in general resets its settings when the scene is saved - this is by design. I agree that the autosave issue is annoying though.

        Best regards,
        Vlado
