  • Simple irradiance question...

    Hi,

I think some materials can override the general GI Irradiance settings.
I am setting my min and max rates to -3 to -2.
But, when the rendering starts it still does 4 prepasses for the irradiance map.

Is there a way to override material setings somehow?
The reason I am asking this is, I am making a test render with different light settings
and I want to see just a low quality but fast rendering to decide some settings.
But, as I said, the materials make the map to do 4 prepasses
no matter what I select in the GI part or rendering window.

Also, when I select the single frame, dont delete and save to a file and also switch to saved map
(regular to save and reuse the irradiance map). It saves the map but,
in the irradiance map parameters part it shows map with 0 samples
and 0 size, which actually is like 1.5 mb.And although the load file option is selected,
when I hit render, it calculates the map again like there is no map...

So, what am I asking is, first is there a file size limit for irradiance map (which I dont think there is),
and second What might be the reason for not saving the map.

I believe not being able to use map is somehow releated with the materials.
I am sure this is a very simple thing, but I have no idea about it.

    Thanks a lot...

The prepasses you are seeing are not the GI irradiance map calculation, but the glossy interpolation prepasses. These have to be calculated for each frame since they are view dependent.

As for the map saying 0 samples... This is an old remaining bug. Try closing the render scene dialog and reopening it. The sample count should have updated itself.

Sound like you have a Vray material with interpolations thats why you see the other prepasses.

After you uncheck the glossy interpolations you can play with -4,-3 or even less...

Make sure you are using the same source for both, and the prepasses should be only from interpolations not irradiance map... Doesnt mater if the size information is 0 Kb, the irradiance map is there and works fine here.

Is there a way to save interpolations too?
Or change their prepasses all together?
Instead of doing one by one?

Thank a lot for your answers

No... I would love to see this too (interpolation save is probabely difficult but very annoying in test renders). But global prepass override sttings would be great
