  • How to shoot through an HDR Dome with animated camera

We have a model lit by a dome with HDR and a 360jpg used as the background image. We have a camera that is animated, which to get the visual effect we want (lens length) it needs to fly in and out through the dome, with various moves inside the dome. We have the latest vRay1.5, but not 2.0 and are using Max 2011.
If we keep the camera inside the dome everything works fine, once we go outside of the dome with the camera we either see black or the opposite side of the hdr. Is there a way to have the camera see through both the lighting and reflection "domes"? should we be using a vRay vs Max camera? What are there any special settings on the domes or the type of domes we create? We haven't been using HDRI's too much so specific explanations would be appreciated. I'm hoping this is even possible Thank you.

I think there are several things you can do.
You can use the object options for the domes --> not renderable, not visible to camera, etc.
Or if your using a dome light (with your hdri), you can set it to invisible.
