  • EXRs and gamma

What do I need to do to get my EXR files to save with the proper gamma? I'm working in LWF and it adds an additional 2.2 gamma to the renders.

    Thanks.

use the vray frame buffer... the max will apply a gamma, I think. I have max setup with 2.2 and my vray color mapping is 1,1,1. I apply a curve in my vfb, which burns the correct gamma in to the exr.

      Make sure that:
      1) your 3ds Max output gamma is 1.0, and
      2) that the V-Ray gamma in the color mapping section is 1.0 OR that the "Don't affect colors" option is enabled.

Ah, I got it now. The key is to set the "Output Gamma" in Max's gamma "Bitmap Files" settings to 1.0, while everything else is 2.2. And to use the VRay VFB like you said.
