  • LWF Tutorial. Anyone?

    Hi all.

I need to Learn "Linear Workflow Work System" this weekend, to start a big Project next Monday.

    Anyone can help me?
Any Tutorial like... "Linear Workflow in Max 2011 - Vray 2.0 for Idiots"?
I need to work with OpenEXR 16b/32b floating point Images for that project.

    Thank's in advance!!!

Do a search and you'll find plenty threads on the topic.
Learn and understand it all in a weekend? Maybe if you're an advanced user.

      nooo.. not another lwf tutorial

you might want to have a look at this very informative post, and linked tutorials.. might end up being quite confusing at first, but don't worry, that's happened to everyone.

Thk's DVP & Rivoli for reply.

I'm 14 years in 3D world (I'm 10 years Character Rigger & Animator), but for now I need to learn LWF to make a Big project in a Little time (Does anyone feel identified with this? xD). I can't have time to expend from now, only this weekend.
I don't have a problem to learn all weekend LWF, but if I have a Great Tutorial explaining in Depth with Many examples, Lwf in 3DS Max & Vray + OpenEXR workshop in Photoshop/Nuke/Composite, is good for me, and take me time to Self-testing the workflow (¿All Sunday?).

        Thk's 4 all!

Do you have to do a lot of compositing after the render, like splitting it up into GI/reflections/direct light?
Then you need to render with linear gamma elements in order to be able to put the final image back together in post from all those passes.
If you want a single beauty pass with maybe an additional Z-depth and velocity pass you are better off leaving the max gamma settings at default and adjust the vray color mapping settings.
Try Reinhard mapping to get burned out areas under control or just set the gamma value in the vray rollout to 2,2.
          Reflect, repent and reboot.
          Order shall return.

Probably too late but i recently bought the class recordings from cgschools VRay Advanced Level 1 Class and they are awesome. They explain the LWF very good and in depth with all you need to know about it and how to work with open exr files.
You can find them here: http://www.thecgschool.com/training-...vray-advanced/

I havent seen that yet Olli. In general I've found there is an overflow of information and tutorials on LWF, but hardly anything about adjusting/correcting your LWF image in post. Does this video cover the post work as well?

Well, they show you how to comp your image in post using all the different passes and do some minor adjustments on them like boosting the reflection.
