  • RESOLUTION / CAMERA offset

    Hello all,
is it possible to extend the camera view somehow without moving it or changing its parameters to be able to see the whole scene? I refer to the image below:

i am talking about something like a resolution offset...something like CANVAS size offset in PS...something that would not change the perspective and just make more space around the object, adding to the image resolution.

    Hope my question is clear

Thanks for your tips (if there are any )))

    Best Regards
    Martin

If you only want to do this for the rendering, you can use the V-Ray VFB MaxScript options for this to explicitly specify the region that you want rendered (which may be larger than the actual resolution) as described here:
    http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/200R...ex.html#hidden

If you want to do this in the viewport, then I'm not sure...

    Best regards,
    Vlado

      There's always overscan... http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/overscan
      www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... At least I have one fan.

I think I looked into the overscan script for just this problem - but I don't think it works with VrayCameras, and I use those extensively. Has that changed?

Generally what I do now is use the zoom factor to just pull back a bit without altering perspective. It does make the resolution/crop relationship a bit imprecise though and that can be a pain when comping with photographs etc. Being able to just widen out the crop/canvas in both viewport and camera/render would be a very handy thing.

                Hi again,
overscan doesnt work with vray camera.

so i went with the maxscript way as Vlado suggested but i dont really know what to put there.

                we tried this:

                output_renderType 4
                output_regxmin (-1000)
                output_regxmax (1000)
                output_regymin (800)
                output_regymax (-800)

but it doesnt work like this...i dont know the syntax i should use these commands...

                Vlado can you help please?

                THANKS!

                  Brett:
we ve found a solution with overscan )) its quite simple
just use regular MAX cam with it and then use the script to convert the normal cam to vray cam ))

Yeah, that would work as long as you can live with minor differences (not so good maybe if you have already run some passes, because the conversion is not pixel perfect). Good idea!

I ended up just living with adjusting the zoom factor and compensating for it by raising the render resolution, but again: it only works if you do not have to match existing renders etc. It would be really nice to just be able to expand the image area. I was really surprised when I found out there was no easy way to do it.

I actually solved this problem in this thread:
                              http://www.chaosgroup.com/forums/vbu...s-Aspect-ratio
the solution is in my upcoming Scripted Plugin for V-ray called.
                              "V-ray Virtual Studio"
or if you know maxscript you can kinda work it out from what I wrote.
