  • Adjusting white balance in post

What file format gives me the most flexibility /headroom for adjusting white balance in post production?

I find tweaking this in vray camera to be slow and painful - id rather just do it in lightroom like it was a camera RAW file.

    Is this possible?

well you only have 2(3) options for "raw"
exr, hdri and also (vrimg which gets changed to a EXR anyways)

You can use Adobe Camera Raw with jpegs too, I use it all the time! Through Bridge though, not sure about Lightroom.

yeah i know, but its not even close to how good a true raw is in terms of flexibility.

32bit exr is my choice......total fexibility & total tweakability & can be used in virtualy all professional post production software.

              Hope this helps

I can open EXR in photoshop but not lightroom (which is fine)...

the colour balance option is grayed out in 32bit exr, if i set it down to 16 bit i get the colour balance option, but not sure how to get a white balance specific tool like in the RAW dialogue where you can pick white.... any ideas?

If i set it to 16bit colour and save as a psd - light room will now open it and it seems to work pretty well... 16bits gives me a fair bit of editing head room vs 8 bit jpgs i imagine... though im yet to test extensively.

Are you using just CS or CS Extended?

The extended version lets you also layer 32bit files etc, where the standard version of photoshop doesn't

oooh... so I'm looking at curves and other adjustment layers greyed out in a 32bit exr, and wondering how people composite in Photoshop without these tools. So they are in fact available, just not in my poor man's version...?
