  • spot lights advice...

    Hi,

    I have a new project, that has something like 400 spot lights... what i want to know is what kind of lights should i use... vraylight planes; vrayies; photometric; photometric with ies... i have only 8GB of memory... i still have to put a few furnitures elements and wall coverings...

    i remember usin 1000 vray ies instanced lights as a test for efficiency and it wasnt too bad

      Hi

      Depends from set up... I would use standard 3ds max Spot lights. But Id set max/min distance them. And then depending on their possition adjust shadows. For example if they in straight line I would only tell 1 light to cast shadow and rest limited... etc etc

        I'm with Da-elf on this one. Never had problems with hundreds of ies lights in a scene (other than slightly longer render times) The longer render times outweights the time and hassle it would take to tweek various lights manually etc. However if it is for a lenghty animation, I would use a combination of both

            thing is instancing tonnes of max ies lights took exponentially longer render times when increasing lights than when using vray ies lights
