  • Ptex and vector displacement

I am trying to find info about this, but i can`t find anything solid, so i ask.
I really hope someone knows something about this

Do Vray have support for Ptex maps from Mudbox etc?

Can i use Ptex vector displacement maps from Mudbox with Vray?

    Thanks.

    Chris.

    Chris-

I haven't yet seen a map plugin for ptex in max, I doubt it would need to be Vray specific. As for the vector displacement can you post a simple example of that bot the map and the output look like from mudbox. Id like to see the work flow figured out as well.

    Thanks

    -Michael

Right now you can do that in V-Ray for Maya. I think I remember a plugin for 3ds Max was in development as well by someone else.

      Best regards,
      Vlado

A ptex plugin is being developed by Mankua but it's currently still in alpha stages.

There is a version available to download - for more info take a look here:

If you have access to a seat of 3D Coat, it outputs to a standard UV map (still non-contiguous islands)...which can be used with any render engine. If later on, you decide that you would rather set your own UV map(s), but don't want to lose all the texture work you did, working with Ptex, you can simply use the Texture Baking tool to spit out the textures onto your new UV maps.
