  • Light Opacity / Exclude option at the same time?

    Hi,

just a little question i couldn`t solve today.
I did the lighting for an exterior car shot with a photographer today.
It`s a little funny cause while we worked i told him something about the advantages of light placing in cg compared to the traditional way like excluding objects from the environment, exclude objects from particular lights etc.

Because it was an exterior scene, i used the vraylightmaterial as the material for the reflectioncards around the car.
I always do it this way because of the opacitychannel with a gradient in it, so i can have a falloff reflection without those black borders on the egdes of the plane. In a studio it doesn` t matter cause the environment is also black but in exterior scenes those black borders are disturbing with the environment i think.
Everything fine at this point But then we came to the point that we needed to exclude some lights from reflecting other parts. (Typical non cg problem).
First i thought no problem, but then i realised that it isn`t so easy.

When i use the vraylightmaterial i have the opacity but i can`t exclude. When i use the vraylight i can exclude but i don`t have the opacity.

What do i overlook? Is it possible at all to do it without different renders with light on/off?

Thanks in advance! Looking forward of your way doing it!

If you use bitmap that has alpha, you will get opacity with vray lights too.

Oh my Gosh! Thanks for the hint Lasse!
I got it solved with your tip, but i wasn`t really satisfied that i have to make the bitmaps in photoshop. But then i tried to do it with the composite map and guess what, it works! This is soo great i can`t tell you. (I was just fiddling with some stupid workarounds for this for the last year i guess!)

I attached an image (mini mini tutorial) to show what i mean and how to achieve it!

Maybe this could be a help for other users too!
