  • Will Vray read Anisotropic Vector Maps?

    Hey,

Quick question.. Does VRay read Anisotropic Vector Maps like the ones used here in XSI: http://xsi.jankin.com/anisotropic_patterns/

What are the advantages of using these?

    Many Thanks,

Nope. Instead, you can use the "anisotropy rotation" texture for the exact sampe purpose.

None (whatever the author of that shader has been known to say). You can get the exact same results with the "anisotropy rotation" parameter.

      Ok thanks..

Which 'Anisotropy Rotation' textures are you referring to? I thought these vector maps were effectively rotation maps themselves..

      Many Thanks,

      Ben

I meant the greyscale textures that you can put in the "Anisotropy rotation" texture slot of a VRaytl. See the last rightmost image here: http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/200R...aniso_rotation

Exactly, which is why I said you can get the same result with either approach.

          Ahh, sorry I understand you..

Yes, I usually use a gradient ramp set to spiral to mimic that effect.. I guess I will stick to doing what I was doing then

Out of curiosity, is there any advantage to using a map made in Photoshop as opposed to a Gradient Ramp in Max?

          Many Thanks,

          Ben

Hm, I don't think so; both should give pretty much the same results.
