  • What happens if you open a Vray 2 file in Vray 1.5?

I am using Vray 1.5 now and want to finally get around to installing my version 2.0. But I am wondering what will happen if I am running 2.0 and send my Max files to people that are still running 1.5? Will everything work for them? Any tips for how to streamline the transition from 1.5 to 2.0?

Its taken me along time to get my whole workflow to work smoothly with Max 2010, DR, Vray 1.5 etc. so I am nervous about rocking the boat with a Vray 2 upgrade. But I am very curious about RT and any other goodies I may gain from it.

Vlado mentioned before that it will work fine, except the VRay2.0 specific features obviously won't be there when you open the file in 1.5
    Kind Regards,

However, if you save the file with 1.5 and try to open it again with 2.0, it seems to crash 3ds max as soon as you touch some vray 2.0 only setting (in my case, it was the lens distortion from file option with vray camera).

Hm, that would be odd. Can you describe this in a little more detail?

I installed the new version only to 32-bit version of max for testing purposes. The scene used a custom lens distortion file with vray camera that was generated with the new lens analysis tool (which, by the way, is really cool!). Then a co-worker fixed made some changes, saved the scene and sent it to network for rendering. I had forgot to mention that I created the scene with vray 2.0, so he used 64-bit max with vray 1.5.
Soon backburner started giving weird errors about not finding the distortion file.
This error might be caused by something else, although the render slaves should have been able find the map.
But then when I tried opening the scene again with 32-bit max and vray 2.0 to see what went wrong, it would always crash when I selected the vray camera and touched the distortion settings.
Unfortunately I don´t have that file anymore, so I can´t send it to you.
