  • LWF: always dealing with white burnout...

I've been using LWF for some time now. I've kind of gotten used to having to deal with burned out highlights and white-ish objects as a matter of course. LWF images always look like crap to me, and always need some love in Photoshop, and that usually means burning the highlights down to a reasonable level.

I'm wondering if there might be something I'm doing wrong - anyone else experience this with most renders?

I have "don't affect colors" activated of course, but do the color mapping controls have any effect on the rendered whites, or is that strictly for sampling? I can't see much or any difference in the renders when I change it.

have you tried changing your color mapping to Exponential or using Reindard with a lower burn value?

thanks Bobby - i havent tried those methods but will give them a go. You find they impact the render like they do using non LWF approaches?

I don't really have issues anymore. I use linear 1,1,1 and I save out as vrimg. I apply a curve in the VFB (.6 on the left, and free on the right).

I didn't realize the curves in the VFB got burned into linear images, but in most cases I'm rendering via Backburner or saving via the raw output, so that curve doesn't get applied anyway. I'll give those options a try still though.

          Thanks /b

            You don't do 2.2?
