Multicores - Ratio between cores and RAM? before slowdown?

I'm geussing the more cores you have the more RAM you need? 2GB per core seems to be a good ratio? Is it safe to go with these numbers?

I mean at which point will more cores start being a slowdown, due to not having enough RAM per core?

I guess thats only the case with programs like after effects that use fake multithreading by launching multiple instances of the program in the background.
