  • using free linear light

i am using some free linear lights with an IES file for distribution and shadows set to shadow maps. my problem is that once i have dropped just a single one of these lights into my scene - the rendering time has gone through the roof.

here's the image without any of the linear lights:

has anyone else used the linear lights with vray? had the same problem?

here is the image with the linear lights:

at 600x600 it took 4 hours to render - bucket mode with 'medium' presets for the irrad. map.

        Proces2,

Try this...make a renderable rectangular spline a above and bit smaller then your ceiling...maker sure to give it some thickness. Put a VRAYHDRI Map http://www.d3cg.com/vray/white3.hdr to the self illumination slot of a standard mat. Adjust the hdri mult to get the desired lighting effect. It's a quick work around...here is a quick example...

awesome. thanks! i'll definitely give that shot.

i always try to use the IES file first, just so that i know that the light distribution is relatively accurate. but, it looks like you got just about the exact same distribution as i got.

            sure thing...

The mult. value cannot be too high or you'll get some artifacts as you see on the column in my image.

              Corey,

I just tried youir suggestion but I can't seem to get it to work? Are there any other settings that need to be applied to the base material?

I have self illumination set to 100 with the hdri in the slot and the multiplier set to 30 with no luck.

Try these settings. I can upload the max 5 scene if useful.
