  • ldr version of vray sky

im making some clouds and want to map the colour with a distance blend between white and the sky colour so it fades into the horizon nicely. tried mapping the density with a distance blend falloff but not getting very nice results.

trouble is due to the hdr nature of the vray sky, the clouds just go mental fluorescent as they fade to the map.

anyone? really would be good to be able to set the fog to fade to the horizon colour.. for now i manually tweaked the colour to match the horizon by eye.. but then if i move the sun 1mm, the horeizon colour changes and my clouds stand out like a sore thumb again.

i tried using a max fog to fade the whole scene to the horizon colour, which works well to blend the geometry into the horizon, but if i include the environment in this, due to the clouds being high up (i.e. a long way away) they aslo get fogged and go blue like the sky.

be really nice if i could do a sunset effect using the vray sky and env fog... as it is it just doesnt work..

I haven't used the sky and fog effects, so I can't offer any advice, but I think it might help to post preview images and/or model.
You said you were trying with a fallof map for density, have you tried with a gradient instead?

ID:	843989im on a real tight deadline at the mo, ill see if i can bang out some examples that actually illustrate the problem.. attached is my latest effort that works ok but only with the sun in the exact position it is.. since ive manually tweaked the cloud colour and density to match the horizon colour.

the problem i have with mapping the density, is since im blending from a noise map (to get the cloud shapes) to a black colour ( to get the fade out on the horizon) the net result is the clouds just get smaller but still stay quite opaque as they approach the horizon... i want them to get thinner and less visible.

Another problem i have, is when i do manage to make them thin out towards the horizon to some extent any colour ive given them to match the horizon colour gets brighter as the clouds thin, as there is less internal shadowing in the clouds. maybe what im after is some kind of "tint" colour for the clouds.
