Vray license over internet/VPN connection

I am *sure* I've had this set up at one time in the past, but over the weekend, I had no success.

I have a laptop at home running Windows 7 and I can set up a VPN connection to our work network. The vray dongle is sat on our server.

Shouldn't I be able to access a license over the internet from my laptop?

Our dongle is always plugged on the server, to. for the connection i opened the firewall for the vray license server. we have a static ip and it works without any trouble since over 2 years. Over VPN it works too but when VPN is activ, the internet connection ist dead, so i have opend the firewall port.

OK, so on the server, I allow access for vray related stuff through the firewall?

Yes, i opened the port 30304 for vray - thats enough. In "change V-ray client license settings" add the domain or ip (dyn-dns works to) and have fun.

i have a little bit trouble with windows 2003 servers (FYI). after i restart the server the vray license server starts automaticly but it don't work. after i kill the process "vrlservice.exe" the process start again and it will work fine.

I use hamachi by logmein to get my license while I am at home.
Works a treat and is quick and easy to set up.

hamachi works very well, up most of the time, easy !

Vote three for hamachi - no need to worry about any firewall stuff and also if they shuffle around any ip addresses of computers, it's handled invisibly in the background so you get what looks like a static ip. Plus it's free!

Trying to get access to Windows firewall on our server (SBS 2003) but I just get the message that IPNAT.sys is running and windows firewall settings cannot be opened. I will get our it people to look at it.

I have had Himanchi running in the past, but I am just trying to do this as natively as possible without 3rd party software.

we don't use the windows-firewall. we use a hardware firewall called "monowall"

We have a couple of NICs on the server, so a few adjustments had to be made to open a port. Now that's been done, everything works a treat.
