  • Lens effect per light

The new vray lens effect really got me interested when vray 2.0 was announced, but now when I'm going to use it in production it's kind of useless since I can't put the effect per light. Or is this possible somehow?

In this case I need glow to greate some light bulbs, but I don't want my whole scene to become blurred with glow.

You could always do a separate pass. Make the lights visible, apply a black material to everything and render out a channel so it's just the glow. Having them locked into the base render seems like a risky move anyway.

That is what I have done in previous projects, and it works fine, but I would still like to be able to do this in the final render.

It would be complicated to do it for one light only (and by extension, its reflections, refractions, GI contribution, the surfaces that it illuminates etc). We worked on a way to apply it only to specific parts of the image, but being a non-physical hack, sometimes this doesn't work too well.

        Best regards,

Can I ask a stupid question? What blending mode should I use to add the render element to the original render in pshop/ae? I never get it looking quite like it appears as a straight render.

Peter, I find "screen" or "multiply" works best. It is tricky to get it looking exactly like the original render. Sometimes I end up using "hard light" but its always scene dependant

Ok, too bad it's still a good feature tho.
